Why filter your water
Municipal and campground water is safe to drink, but the line between the spigot and your tank picks up more than you'd think — and RV plumbing has nowhere for it to go but your glass. The most common issues:
- Dirt & sediment — loose particles from aging campground plumbing or well sources
- Rust — from older pipes and fittings along the supply line
- Chlorine taste & odor — common in municipal water, especially noticeable in an RV's smaller water system
- Volatile organic chemicals (VOCs) — trace chemical compounds that a basic filter won't touch
Two stages, two jobs
A dual-housing filter runs water through a sediment pre-filter first, then an advanced carbon block. Each stage catches something different — skipping one leaves a gap the other can't cover.

The pre-filter protects the carbon block from clogging early — running carbon alone shortens its life.
Single housing or dual?
Both use the same cartridge family — the difference is how many stages you're running before water reaches your tank.
- Single housing — Carbon block cartridge only. Good for short trips or already-clean water sources. Smaller footprint, but no dedicated sediment stage, so the cartridge clogs faster with dirty water.
- Dual housing (recommended) — Sediment pre-filter + carbon block in sequence. Best for unpredictable campground or well water. The carbon cartridge lasts longer since sediment is caught first. Ships as a set of 2 housings with a wall bracket and wrench.
Cartridge life: the advanced carbon block is rated for roughly 1,200 gallons or six months of typical use, whichever comes first. The sediment pre-filter is rinseable and lasts as needed depending on water clarity — check it each time you fill.
