Your Ultimate First RV Trip Checklist

Your Ultimate First RV Trip Checklist

Introduction

Your first RV trip is exciting, but it can also be overwhelming. Many first-time RV owners arrive at the campground only to realize they forgot an important item. From power adapters to sewer hoses, having the right gear makes the difference between a relaxing trip and a frustrating one.

To help you prepare, our team created this simple First RV Trip Checklist so you can hit the road with confidence and make some great memories with your friends and family.

1. RV Levelling Blocks

When you arrive at a campsite, specifically in Ontario, due to the high level of water and different camp gorund set ups. The ground is rarely perfectly level. RV levelling blocks help stabilize your trailer and keep everything inside balanced.

Without levelling blocks, you may notice:

  • Doors swinging open
  • Fridge not working properly
  • water pooling in sinks and showers
  • Wiggly trailer when moving inside

Levelling your RV is one of the first steps when setting up your camp.

2. Sewer Hose Kit

Every RV needs a sewer hose to connect to the campground’s dumping station or sewer hookup.

A good sewer hose kit typically includes:

  • Heavy-duty hose
  • Secure connectors
  • Leak-resistant seals

This allows you to safely empty your black and gray water tanks without leaks or mess.

3. RV Water Pressure Regulator

Campground water pressure can vary from one campsite to another. In some parks, the pressure can be strong enough to damage your RV waterlines. That includes your water pipeline, water tanks, and water heater

A water pressure regulator protects your RV by controlling the incoming water pressure before it enters your RV's water system.

It’s a small and affordable add-on that can prevent costly plumbing repairs.

4. RV Electrical Adapter

Not every campsite has the same electrical outlet. Some provide 30 amp, 50 amp, and standard 15 amp household outlets.

Having the right electrical adapter ensures you can safely connect your RV to the campground power supply wherever you travel.

5. Wheel Chocks

Wheel chocks are placed behind your RV tires to prevent your trailer from rolling. Very important as it can roll back due to uneven grounds. This is a safety standard we at Chief Camper definitely recommend, as it will keep you and your family safe. It is also recommended when setting up levelling blocks and hitching or unhitching your trailer.

6. Basic Tool Kit

Even on short trips, it’s smart to bring a small tool kit.

Helpful tools include:

  • Screwdrivers
  • Adjustable Wrench
  • Pilers
  • Socket Wrench

These tools can come in clutch with small repairs or quick adjustments during your trip.
